Well, he does have a pile of books at one point, so it looks like they have a well stocked library

And definitely a hospital where he could pick the brains of doctors.
I took the leap year thing as a problem of the conversion to years and days. It was all a little silly, anyway, since they were all approximations (often rounding off to years) so adding 8 days or whatever makes little sense.
I agree about the carpal tunnel stuff being nonsense.
Especally since he does not remain DEAD.
You have a point about the muscle memory thing. Damn. And here I thought the film was realistic
Also there are some mistaken issues brought up - for example, the author counting extra days from leap years. How many times does February 29 occur during an endlessly recurring February 2? Also the mention of needing to rest from the piano to avoid carpal tunnel syndrome - As far as I knew that is a culumlative condition that you would not get over the course of a day, and even if you could - it would not last when you restart in the morning. Though that does lead to another point - a lot of these skills should involve a certain degree of muscle memory and/or conditioning to do. If if he absolutely knows which keys to press, shouldn't his hands be all clumsy and so forth since he is making his fingers move in that manner for the first time in his life, as far as his nerve endings and muscles and tendons are concerned?

Pre-internet, how could you learn to be a doctor in a small town you can't leave?
