They don't go over what a Horcrux is or anything. And if you haven't read anything past the first... wow. I mean, you don't even see Death Eaters until Book 3, right? The first two books are The Trio At Hogwarts, and there's really nothing about the organizational structures of the wizarding world until Azkaban.
