what a great film. really heart wrenching in places, obviously when he's abandoned and when he's frozen in front of the blue fairy.

i didn't really get the flesh fair, it didn't seem to fit the feel of the film for me. too flash and overstated it didn't have the same poise as much of the rest of the film in way of direction. i'm guessing there's also some parallel or parody to a similar event or fair in america? but yeah i didn't really get it. (i know criticising spielberg on direction=suicidal, but there you have it)

i also think it should've ended with him being frozen forever in front of the blue fairy, when a narrator had to step to flow to the next part of the film it felt clumsy and forced. however saying that without it you wouldn't have had the wonderful similarity between david's being frozen and his (i guess) adoptive brother martin's (who is horrible, in a sort of naive doesn't know better kind of a way) cryogenic freezing and how the alien's then make monica (his mother) for david when he was originally made for her

but yeah the whole bit with the aliens is weird

anyway loved it, but what's haley joel whatsit doing nowadays?
