I disagree that GAW is comparable. Harkaway lays the ground and prepares the twist. I did not find any of that in Angel. It did not provide a satisfying moment of retrospective illumination; it just changed its mind (this is Angel). One gives the impression of being planned, the other does not
Well, I don't know which twist you're thinking of on Angel, but some of them didn't entirely come out of left field, either. One can't give clues as subtle in a TV show as in a book, though. Harkaway lied to me, Whedon lied to me, I don't really see much of a difference personally.
Season 8?
Oh, good thing I decided to remove my more specific comments on that in case you hadn't read it. Season Eight, yes, the continuation of BtVS in comic book form (Angel's continued in comic book form as well, for that matter, but I haven't read any of that yet). I even understand they're going to start Season Nine, now.
There is one thing that really, really annoys me.

Because TV shows about vampires are usually not concerned about science?
