Yes. I agree.
Huh. For some reason - I'm really not sure why - I had you pegged as someone liking Giles very much in general. Oh, it might have to do with your worship of Lupin, come to think of it.
I had a major crush on Giles when Buffy first came out, but there is a part in some of the later episodes where I feel it is more about Anthony Stewart Head than it is about Giles. Perhaps that is unfair. And I really don't like Giles of season 7. Then again, I don't think I'm supposed to.
But we know kiss of life is not a magic kiss of life, it is restarting the lungs. Buffy is not far enough gone into fantasy land for it to be anything else. Drawing on myths is one thing, I cannot help feeling that this is something else.
I don't know about magic, but most people would view it as more than a purely mechanical thing, alright.
Really? It would never occur to me to think of CPR as mystical in any way.
And really, I think my point is sound - just because being entirely consistent about the breathing thing is not feasible, doesn't mean they should give up entirely on claiming that vampires don't breathe.

I am not saying they should. But there are two sides to breathing. One is being able to inflate and deflate your lungs -- this is a matter of muscles, I think. The other is being able to absorb oxygen from the air. I have no problem with them removing the last of these. That makes sense. They are dead: they no longer need the oxygen. But that is not necessarily linked to not being able to inflate and deflate lungs. They are clearly in control of their muscles in general. ``Lack of breath'' conflates these two concepts in an unhelpful way.
Angel uses his lack of breath as a strength in the very first season of Buffy as well, when Giles, Xander and Willow are trapped in the room with the gas (the episode with the invisible girl).
Ah yes, now that you mention it. I also just thought of the part where he spends two months at the bottom of the ocean. Kind of a big one, there.
HEhe. Yes.

Because TV shows about vampires are usually not concerned about science? *NM*
