Being entertained is certainly part of it, but like most good art it has deeper meaning than that. I mean even wheel of time has themes and things it is trying to say.

It was pretty much the premise of the first half of the first season, and then quickly discarded. For good reason.

Now it's about power and desire, and the ability to maintain some semblance of virtue while being thrust into a world full of people who will exploit virtue as weakness. How does one maintain their sense of right and wrong in the midst of insanity? Bill, Eric, Sookie, and Tara have all been struggling with that concept for the first half of the season... and some of them are concluding that being a good person is just too much of a bother.

Or maybe I'm just too simpleminded to care about "what it's REALLY about."
