Well it wasn't bad per say Roland00 Send a noteboard - 02/07/2010 04:46:07 AM
But neither was it good...it was a mainly meh

The characters are extremely flat, if you didn't know them from the series all you would take from them is Sokka is a boy, Katara is a girl, and they know the hero. That is it for character development, the main characters deliever lines and you just don't learn anything about them, nor do the actors put any emotions in their lines.

There is very little worldbuilding which is sad.

The story flow is a mess. The movie is 103 minutes long or 1.7 hours vs the tv series 7.98 hours, so of course there is going to be time compression. Yet the events they do tell in the story don't have any depth, they don't have any significant memorable moments which would help the audience mentally create a beginning, a middle, and an end.

The writing isn't any good.

And finally pretty much there is very little bending. Of all the bending in the movie, 90% of you have already seen if you watched any trailers or commercials.

------------------------------------

So while the movie isn't bad, it isn't really good. I didn't felt it insulted the series, it didn't make me angry, I wasn't disappointed, it was just meh. It was so unremarkable I can easily forget this movie was ever made, and I am glad for that for I enjoyed the tv series.

4 out of 10 appas

------------------------------------

And the sad thing is this movie cost 150 million to make, and 130 million to market. With that budget you figured they could have either done
1) Better special effects if they were trying to get the time down to 100 minutes
2) Made the movie 3 hours long, yes the kids won't enjoy it, but that would have given time for them to flesh out the story. Shyamalan knew he only had 100 minutes, and he knew that wasn't much time, thus he didn't even try to flesh out the story.
3 hours is enough to tell 9 out of the 20 episodes with no cutting. Easily enough time to tell these arcs
1)Boy in the Iceberg/Avatar Returns
2)Southern Air Temple/Zuko vs Zhao Agni Kai
3)Warriors of Kyoshi (introduce the Kyoshi warriors for they are necessary for Book 2)
4)Winter Solstice Part 2: Avatar Roku
5)The Storm (Flashbacks to Aang and Zuko's past)
6)The Blue Spirit
7)The Northern Air Temple
Waterbending Master
9)The Siege of the North Part 1 and 2

Dropping these stories
King of Omashu
Imprisoned (The Metal Prison)
Winter Solstice Part 1: The Spirit World
The Waterbending Scroll (The Pirates)
Jet
The Great Divide (The two earth bending groups that hate each other that must cross the canyon with Team Avatar)
The Fortuneteller
Bato of the Watertribe
The Deserter (the firemaster that almost trains Aang)
