I saw the preview and thought, "Hey. Josh Brolin's good. I like westerns, this seems to have a new special effects twist- let's go see it."
What I didn't know is that the movie is based on a comic. That made me skeptical from the beginning, but I was willing to suspend judgement 'til the end of the film.
The story was predictable, the dialog was cheesy. I laughed out loud at some of the lines, they were that bad. Maybe it was meant to be a comedy? If it didn't have Josh Brolin and John Malkovich, I'm sure the thing wouldn't have been ditched halfway through filming.
There were some positives about the movie. I actually enjoyed the soundtrack. The way way Brolin portrays Hex seemed a bit like a spoof on how J.B. already talks. I also like the concept of how Hex can talk with the dead, those scenes were actually kind of interesting. There was a neat fight scene that reminded me of "The Matrix" with the slow-motion kicks while flying through the air. As far as how the movie compared to the comic- I can't say. Was the comic bad too?
All in all, The movie was "ok" if you like that kind of thing, but I wish we would have stayed at the Mexican restaurant and spent the 18 dollars on 4 more margaritas.
