and borderline stupid. I have nothing against him having an audition, and if he's truly the BEST peter parker out there, than I have no problem with giving him the role. But why all this nonsense about fb groups and the like trying to get a "black" spiderman. Fans of the comic book and fans of the first three movies are accustomed to a white peter parker, because that's how his character was written in the original comic books. To alter that now would not only be unrealistic, but unnecessary and a silly marketing ploy. The movie executives ought to have some integrity and remain faithful to the comics in at LEAST this instance.
I just don't understand the desire now to put black people in "white people" roles. It's as if we somehow need to feel better about ourselves by putting a black person in a white role. Or almost like we're doing it to convince ourselves that we're NOT racist or prejudiced. Someone mentioned it earlier, but who in their right mind would suggest that othello be white? Or that Zorro be white? Or Shaft?
Now, I've never seen this Glover person act, and from his wiki page, he seems dorky enough to play peter parker, and he may be a true fan, but come on folks, how far are we really going to stray from the source material? What next? A black james bond? A black person is just not the role of peter parker. Peter parker is white. That's how the comic was drawn, that's how the first three movies portrayed him.
Unless Glover is really above and beyond MEANT for this part, unless he were born to play it, I don't see any driving force in making him black.
Again, it just seems like a silly unnecessary marketing ploy if they go through with it.

You must unlearn what you have learned.

About the same way I'd feel about a black bond - it's ridiculous.

I don't really care about the race of Spider Man. But why reboot the franchise so soon?
