Did you spot a crack in this episode? I looked, but I couldn't find one.
I feel quite strongly that you should make a separate theory post (we have a category for it) officially stating the theory so that we can consolidate all our information before the finale episodes.
In addition to a jacket, the Doctor seems to be sporting a different watch in the forest in the Angels episode, by the way.
Edit: regarding "The Doctor is off". Normally I agree with you, but this time it seemed like too much of an echo of what Ten said in the library episode: I'm old and thick &c.
I didn't see a crack either. I like your idea of a theory post though. Before the next episode, I think I'll rewatch the season so far and put something together with everything of significance I can find. I'm gonna look for that watch too.
It's true that Doctors in the past have pulled the "Oh, I'm so dumb" card for plot convenience. The sheer number of times he's seemed distracted or unfocused in this season has been quite noticeable though ... I have to believe it's on purpose, because if it's all been done for plot convenience, then we have some very lazy writers here.
True. It really needs to be explained. But if it isn't, I won't be as upset as if the jacket thing isn't explained. For some reason.
Agreed there, the jacket is the biggest thing that needs to be settled.
First, there aren't any sleeves on his jacket in that scene. When he comes back to talk to Amy. You see his arms up to the elbows, and there are no sleeves, just the watch. Which, as someone mentioned, is a different watch (gold in "Vincent and the Doctor", but leather in "Flesh and Stone"). Second, the display in front of River Song at around 28 minutes in has the Atraxi (or however you spell it) eyeball. The screen is flickering and all blue, but you can clearly see the pupil moving in the same back/forth/up/down pattern as in "The Eleventh Hour".
