The ending reminded me the most of Lord of the Rings, with the ring bearers being allowed passage to the Grey Havens as a payment of peace for what they did and sacrificed.
It also reminded me a bit of the ending of the Twin Peaks movie (the movie's end can be seen as a sequel to the ending of the Twin Peaks series) in the Black Lodge (basically Hell/Purgatory) before entering the White Lodge (basically Heaven).
