I did not like the Dalek episode, but I really don't like the Daleks. Overall I think he's doing a good job as the Doctor. I especially like that he is kind of bad-ass in this series. "be afraid, be very afraid, I'm bad-ass" is really working for the show as a whole I think.
I don't really know exactly what is driving me crazy about the new series, but here is a list of culprits:
1) I feel like they are trying to take too much on in each episode, and as a result nothing gets accomplished. I come away from watching each episode scratching my head. I feel like nothing of worth happens in the episodes.
2) Amy doesn't respect the Doctor. Yes, he let her down several times when she was little, and because of him her entire town thought she was crazy-- these things explain the trust issues somewhat, but their dynamic is just completely off.
I am not expecting the same dynamic, production, etc of the previous 2 seasons, but I do compare the watchability of the two directors/doctors/writers and come away disliking this season. I understand that things adapt, change, regress, etc but I always hope that whatever manipulation is applied will still maintain the same watchability.
I really hope that this show turns around and starts engaging me again. I think the only episode I have truly enjoyed has been the Starship Britain episode.
