That was the only thing that made me go "Huh?" Not that Ben didn't express disagreement or disappointment, but that MiB would contradict himself so quickly in front of the person he'd made the bargain with.
He knows who he's dealing with. I think he did that on purpose for the shock/surprise effect to find out from his reaction if Ben was really following him for the reward or if he was faking.
