People also complain that this episode title was misleading, and only had to do with Sideways-Locke's surgery. I disagree, and think Jack's insistence to "Just trust me" proved that he's the one. I think Sawyer disqualified himself with the bomb, etc, and Sayid's comment to Jack further supports that.
Agreed. The foreshadowing that Jack is the one was heavy and suggests the title indeed had a double meaning.
Desmond will probably be the one to flip whatever EMP switch is necessary to kill Smokey, but Jack is looking like Jacob's replacement.
I don't think this is heading for any killing of Smokey. There wouldn't be any point to Jack replacing Jacob if the Evil the island protects the world from isn't there anymore.
This rather looks like this is gonna end with Jack and the evil- in-Locke's-shape as the new guardian/prisoner.
IMO, Desmond is perhaps needed to fix up "reality" and make the chaotic sideway universe(s?) end. Or maybe he'll be involved in how Jack gains Jacob's powers. He can apparently withstand a fair amount of Smokey's chaotic power and survive, so maybe he'll be used as some sort of shield to keep Locke in while Jack becomes the new Jacob. Widmore spoke of a sacrifice for Desmond, in any way - but it's still unclear what Widmore's goal is, and if he hates Ben but is still a follower of Jacob for all that. It sounds to me like Ben and Widmore both think/thought they were the candidate. Ben is disabused, but his foe may not be.
I wonder if they'll give us a peek at future visitors to the Island to close the circle?
