Day 1 Lunch Interlude

The young officer enters near noon, and whispers to Hieshyn, who frowns, nods, and rises from the table to leave, a pair of guards trailing him.

“Ladies and Gentlemen, I apologize for the interruption in your deliberations.” Says the young man, “... however this seems to be a good time to have lunch and let everyone stretch their legs.”

He nods toward the guard by the glass doors to the courtyard, letting in a draft of crisp spring air. Servants enter baring trays and tables and begin setting them up. Several of the guest rise and stretch, helping themselves to food or returning to their rooms or walking in the well-tended gardens of the courtyard.

“Well, our deliberations seem on hiatus.” Says a woman dressed all in black with black hair as she rises from the table. “Hopefully when Hieshyn returns we will have all eighteen pairs of eyes left to examine this situation with.”

A fat man dressed in red and gold waves a hand covered in rings at her as he begins eating with enthusiasm. “Seventeen and a half, by my count, and that do be assuming no one is killed walking in the garden.”

“Or poisoned at the table.” Says a red-headed woman as she pats the fat man on the shoulder, her green riding dress shifting in the breeze as she joins two men by the doorway to the courtyard. The fat man lowers the fork halfway to his mouth with a grimace.

After an hour or so of people eating, walking, and otherwise refreshing themselves the guest begin gathering again in the room. An older man in gray with a sword on his hip stands and motions to gain everyone's attention. “I would like to raise this point again, that we have an even number, though odd at the moment, and if we are to do this process of elimination we may have even numbers again, we should have a way to establish how we will deal with a tie-breaking vote.”

“I second that.” Says the Andoran man further down the table. “We should have rules for how to deal with these sort of eventualities. I propose we select someone each day, by vote, to serve as a tie-breaker and generally assist in making sure everyone gets a chance to have their say, and someone should defend the accused too.”

“Agreed” Says a Saldaean man who is cleaning his nails with a boot dagger. “We aren't a bunch of peasants acting like a mob after all, but I don't want it to be the same person every day.”

“Without any objection...” The older man in gray says, scanning the room for dissent, getting mostly shrugs and nods, “Very well, I open the floor to nominations.”

The Title “Chair” is now in play, it functions as follows:

The Chair is elected by vote of the players, a plurality rather than a majority is needed to elect, though the vote ends as soon as a majority is reached if other players have not voted. The position is vacated if a majority of players vote to do so and at dawn every day. Once a person has served, they can not serve the next day. This position exists as long as there are seven living players in the game.

Ability: The chair has a tie-breaking vote, which is represented in the game by that player having an extra vote, the 'chair vote' which is automatically cast with their own vote. This vote does not count towards the VNTL.

The Title 'Advocate' is now in play, it functions as follows:

The Advocate is elected, serves a term, and is removed as the chair, and the role exists the same, until only seven players remain in the game, active, RBIRL, inactive, or not, just as the chair. They can not serve consecutively, same as the Chair.

Ability: The Advocate can cast a 'defense vote' removing a vote from one player once and only once in a day. They do so under the normal voting rules (bold in message, but not in title) but for this vote they use “Defense Vote: Name”, they still have their normal vote, and can even if they choose defense vote and vote for the same person, though this would of course cancel out. The player targeted with the ability is considered to have had the number of votes needed to lynch them raised by one, so that with 13 players, where 7 is needed, 8 will now be needed, and at 14 players, where 8 is needed, 9 would be needed. An advocate who votes his/her defense vote for someone may not later remove it that day, they have effectively 'convinced' someone not to vote for that person, they may of course vote for that person themselves later, but they can not un-defend them, the argument in their defense has stuck in people's minds.

Both abilities are unaffected by any other voting restrictions or enhancements a player may have, counting as a single stand alone power.

To cast a vote for either position people must use the normal voting format, but use “Chair Vote: name” or “Advocate vote: name” to have their vote count. Although the moderator will likely formally comment that someone has been elected to either position, the players are expected to keep track of this themselves. Again, to gain the ability, only a plurality is necessary, not a majority, a majority will simply end the process. Once a player votes for either position, they can not unvote for it or vote for someone else. At the end of a 96 hour period, if not all votes have been cast, the winner will be whoever has the most votes, in event of a tie for the most, whoever received their last vote first will be the winner, to encourage haste in voting.

These rules are subject to change for the next 48 hours in event some flaw is found, players may making suggestions or arguments regarding it on the board or to the Moderator via NB during that time, however voting is now open and the 96 deadline to vote for either title has begun. Needless to say no one can hold both simultaneously, and this is only a one day position, both become open again at dawn of day 2, and voting open immediately thereafter.

Again, the format to vote is:

Chair Vote: Name
Advocate Vote: Name

This format is required for posting in titles of messages too, but need not be bold, you do not have to vote for both positions at once though that is probably preferable, and you can vote for the same person for both jobs. Votes for someone who is not a valid candidate (i.e. having served in the position the day before) will not count, you may still vote for someone else as the vote is simply considered meaningless.

In event someone receives a plurality of vote for both positions, they may pick which one they wish, and the runner up for the un-chosen position will assume the title.

Feel free to ask questions, and answer them if someone asks and you feel sure of the answer though I will try to answer any I see in a timely manner, I leave this to your better judgement, enjoy... this concludes the lunch interlude.
