taiga also said "business woman" during question phase, which could be true kinda maybe, the psi corps often rents out 'commercial telepaths', people who are employed to sit in on business negotiations (openly and with the consent of both parties) to verify both are telling the truth. the two main telepaths of the series, talia winters and lyta alexander, are both commercial telepaths rated p5 (average), on hand if station command needs them but essentially hiring out for a fee to humans and aliens, businessmen or diplomats, which they send part of to the psicorp, guild dues so to speak. i wouldn't call them business people, but i wouldn't call it a definite lie either, the term is broad and could fit into the aes sedai variety of dishonesty we regularly practice in game, town or scum.
however, not as a p1, they can't read minds and couldn't be a commercial telepath. the psicorp permits human telepaths exactly three options, join the corp, take drugs - sleepers - that block the ability and are unpleasant, or go to jail. taiga can only be on the 'sleepers' or a member of the corp to be claiming business woman. it isn't impossible but it really isn't very likely. someone on the sleepers is probably not going to be very good at commerce, they're 'known to cause mental disassociation as well as severe and sometimes suicidal depression'. the stations second-in-command had a telepath mother (she's actually a secret p1 herself) who was on the sleepers and killed herself. that's a major plot point of the series.
still, as i've said my own character thinks we're law abiding legit folk but the role message undertone inclines me to think i might be viewed as shady and this may or may not be justified, for all i know i handle illegal contraband and just consider myself honest. taiga could be a rogue telepath selling illegal goods and still be town, i'd say taiga could be a rogue telepath illegal scanning people but a p1's barely got any ability, as mentioned, they are known to be able to tell if someone is scanning them (at least if the person doing it doesn't know they're a telepath, a good telepath can read a weaker telepath unnoticed) but they can't read minds. i also add that telepath ratings concerning exact abilities are a bit vague in primary canon.
taiga can't be a cop based on telepathic strength, not unless the mod messed up and that happens, and taiga could be a cop role by mundane means but not by telepathic means, p1 is just too weak. and it would seem weird to make some a telepath as cop but make their cop aspect unrelated to their power. the mod might have just wanted a weak telepath, remembered p5 wasn't weak and just picked p1 without pondering it much. even a p5 could fish around all our heads in minutes after all.
all things considered though, i just find this claim dubious at best. not impossible though.
as i mentioned int my title though it doesn't really matter. we can have everyone deny they're the cop, if taiga is lying it is worth exposing the cop to get a scummer and we can't risk losing our cop to lynch. we pretty much have to do the whole 'everyone respond, is it your opinion based on info in your possession that taiga's cop-claim is improbable? eg are you a cop, have you been told we have no cop, are you a tracker or other investigative role that would make the cop role less likely, etc?' bit.
