He might well have done it, in which case 'why?' becomes a very important question. It's equally likely, more likely I think, that he felt obliged on being asked to give an answer that left that door open... consider, if Hieshyn hadn't raised that point and Rana replied as he did, Hieshyn would almost certainly be dead now. Based on the available data of the game, Ranagrande gave the correct response as Mod whether he wrote it or not, and I don't consider it plausible to guess... now we can actually figure out for sure, by having every single player submit an acrostic and encode one word or phrase to reveal and claim it... if we come up one high, we would know he was submitting to contests. Unless everyone is willing to do that, we must treat the Mod-Author option as an unknowable.
