Round 1 Gossip
The court is ablaze with rumors…
“A Gem Mine on Relicon Sapphire Plateau was raided, I heard thousands of workers died during the attack”
“…One of those minor lordlings was killed I heard”
“Oh, where was that?”
“Not sure, Ecaz… maybe Buzzell or that wretched desert Melange comes from, no survivors though, the invaders butchered everyone and took over”
“The Brigands of Bendar were crushed during an attempted raid, I heard their leader is furious”
“Same things with the Pirates of Carib Ion Sea, a failed raid.”
“No… no… it wasn’t a raid, they tried to capture the place.”
“That was somewhere else, they tried both.”
“These pirates are getting far too aggressive… something should be done!”
“The fool noble who bought the Soostones on Buzzell's Western Coast has left them completely unguarded!”
“Sivria’s responsible for this! You mark my words, it would be like them to fund pirates considering what they did to the crops.”
“Not Sivria, the Emperor’s responsible for this piracy, and it’s the Bene Tleilax who engineered the crop damage.”
“Ridicolous… rumor has it that Zum Gaorn himself was seen leading one of these raids.”
“Rumors and lies about our monarch. Besides the Tleilaxu’s face dancers could easily impersonate the Bashar.”
The Chancellor suggests another Grand Ball

In the long months since announcing their candidacy the nominees have sought to lay the groundwork for their rise to power. Now they are summoned to the Chancellor’s offices and find themselves in the company of the Chancellor, a high ranking Imperial Officer, and a cowled figure in black sporting the emblem of the Spacing Guild.
“Ah, greetings… I shall get right to the point. In all the recent turmoil I’ve barely been able to keep up on my duties, and now a new problem has emerged. The Guild has reported numerous pirate attacks and something must be done about it, but the Emperor’s own forces are otherwise occupied and frankly I do not have the time. I think that if you deal with this problem it can only boost your statures in the eyes of the Landsdraad, and as these matters normally are the responsibility of the Chancellor I can offer hefty rewards for success.”
Pursing his lips he regards the Guild representative. “Three pirate bands in particular have come to our attention as extremely aggressive, but I do not know who they are. The Guild knows but their neutrality prevents them from disclosing details, as these pirates have not attacked them. I have been able to determine that these pirates are known to you, or some of you. I want their names, I want their locations, and I want them destroyed. The Landsdraad will dispense one billion solaris to each of you for each pirate faction named, for each one of their bases you locate, and for each base that is captured. Complete all of these tasks and you will each receive an additional four billion solaris. Should you accept this challenge, I will immediately authorize you two billion solaris to cover your initial expenses. Lords and ladies, good hunting.” And with that he waves a hand in dismissal.
The officer exits with you. “I’m afraid I can task no forces or spies to assist you, on the Chancellor’s orders, only to confirm for him the validity of anything you uncover. For now I will refer to these pirates as Pirate Alpha, Pirate Beta, and Pirate Gamma. According to the Guild you already know their names. I will investigate and confirm anything the majority of you tell the chancellor and if true you’ll receive your compensation, same with any location you give, we’ll obviously know when you capture a base.
"Reports are trickling in of militia uprisings in certain Sapho Juice refineries."
"Anything to do with these pirates maybe?"
"I heard about the Chancellor's Challenge to the Nominees, personally I think I'd demand more than a billion solaris if it were my spies or legions that turned up a pirate base and rooted it out. I couldn't even launch a meaningful assault for a billion solaris"
"No, no, I hear he gives them each that, so they could just all agree to pay the nominee who turned up the location or destroyed a base some of their funds. Like maybe a quarter of a billion solaris each, that would cover troop transport."
"And my losses in such an encounter? Well, you are right, no matter how you cut it finding and destroying a trio of pirate groups is less costly than the hundred billion solaris the chancellor's doling out... from our dues I might add."
"Cheaper than the raids continuing, trillions lost in damages, escort fees, disrupted trade, people glutting the market with their assets out of fear."
"True, I hear the planet of Nuar has a new ruler! The prior Siridar Ruler sold it"
