I can't really think of any way to break the game, even outright telling people what you bet, some of the variations I've been rolling around to add a little more flavor, like giving everyone 9 gold, 9 silver, and 10 copper (1 gold = 10 silver = 100 copper) and requiring each bid have at least 1 of each quantity, those might conceivably be breakable but I don't think so, just a slight increase in complexity.

Well, you are welcome to try, though if you come up with any good ones, NB rather than post is probably preferable, I might be able to patch the rules around it.
Fun fact related to that actually. Well, it's not really a fun fact, but more like a lame story: Dude I worked with this summer decided to share with me that whenever a new edition of D&D comes out, he and his friends (well, not anymore, because they don't really do that anymore, of course) got together and tired to exploit all the loopholes in the rules to the point where the game was broken. And I was like, yeah, I bet you do, because you're irritatingly pompous. Only I didn't say that because I'm a nice person.
Then I found $5.
Actually, whenever the new editions come out, or any new system, I tend to end up with various other vet players and DMs sitting around trying to break it too, old days, games had a lot of those, these days they playtest them more, I avoid being a playtester but usually at least one friend is and asks me to play. I remember the old Palladium system, we made level one characters and the DM thought they might be a bit over powered, so we started with basically nothing but our clothes, stranded on an island at level 1, and ended up killing a huge dragon before level 2. So it is good to find those loopholes, so you can work around them when you try to run a serious campaign. Not that it ever helps besides banning the worst of the worst, my own games always seem to turn the players evil by level 2, and it can be hard to challenge a party that's turned total darkside. Not enough supplies and treasure? Armed robbery. Land threatened by Evil Demon Prince? Ask if he's hiring. Not enough food? Cannibalism. Makes running a campaign very hard.
