I've dug quite a hole, but imma keep digging til I find the other side
As mentioned in my first post, the word ninja/ninjas/etc does not appear in my RM, and I had no victory condition listed. I'm not sure what you are getting at with this new scummer implication. I am specifically referring to your claimed role, as an investigator, that if ninja appears in your RM in a format of explaining how your role power works then it should not be surprising that other roles didn't have this. A cop could well have 'detect if someone is a ninja' in there text, or a miller, as I mentioned in the preceding post, whereas a town tracker or RBer has an ability that functions regardless of alignment, as would a BP, safe from vig, SK and DF alike, or a doc, a jailkeeper, a lie detector etc. A cop or miller could easily have an RM that merely said 'you detect if people are guilty or innocent' or 'you show up as guilty' without mention of ninjas, but other roles by and large would have no more reason to mention ninjas than a vanilla's would.
What I'm referring to is the victory statement. I think at first you said there was no mention of ninjas, which I thought was interesting because it would mean either there was no victory condition, or you might be scum, or... something. I didn't know which it was until F-T clarified the victory conditions (which told me it was the former). At that point, I realized it was probably a mistake to have said that, so I tried to go back.
As for the scummer thing, what I was getting at is that, if you did have the ninjas mentioned in your victory condition but not in association with your role. It's not a serious accusation since I was pretty sure that you were probably referring to them not being present at all in your RM.
So, while the ninjas in my RM were in reference to my role, I was expecting them to show up in others RMs too as part of a victory condition (a standard part of the RM, usually).
It is rather contradictory that you keep using Inadvertent Mountainous now but originally suggested all vanilla and Mountainous. They are not the same, you even linked to Mountainous so its not like it was minor confusion on terms or a slip of the tongue. Mountainous is is roleless, Inadvertent Mountainous is where the roles are setup to imply lots of power roles, like has backup roles of cop and doc but no cop or doc and investigation-immune scum. In IM virtually everyone has a role, pointless roles. Are you saying now that your investigatory role is a back up? I say I have no reason to think my role is a red herring or similiar trick.
Honestly, I think they are effectively the same thing. I believe the page I linked to had a link to Inadvertent as well, as a spin-off/variant of the mountainous-type game. My role is not a back-up, though, so... yeah.
I don't think it was a lie, but you can disagree. I mean when you're dealing with people who know how Aes Sedai talk, you have to sometimes read between the lines. I don't think anyone had claimed or suggested they were vanilla. I believe I've linked to the relevants posts already and I just don't see how anyone could have made that conclusion.
Um... yeah I've got nothing. I would say it's both in my mind, but it would be really hard to explain it. Like, on one hand it was supposed to be said in such a way that the casual reader wouldn't think I was referring to my own RM, but on the other, it was a subtle attempt to make the role-hunting mafia (who are not casual readers) think that I was less likely to be a role. Oops.
I think it will go that way, if you are town, that will suck, but realistically with no method to HC this will have been inevitable. Were you town and later claimed investigator and reported results, the vanilla hypothesis would have cast a cloud on any claim made.
In reality, I think, if I am town, it will only suck a little if I die, but I think I could really help if I'm alive. It's a risk-reward, though, and if I have to go, then... as the saying goes:
'If you must mount the gallows, give a jest to the crowd, a coin to the hangman, and make the drop with a smile on your lips.'
I can't accept a 'theoretical' comment of that nature, you knew it wasn't true and you said it, you said you thought it was Mountainous and linked to the very page for that, now you say Inadvertent Mountainous yet that whole concept revolves around roles, roles that are false indicators, like nurse and deputy and miller ina cop-less and doc-less game. You say you're not a miliar, you say you're investigatory.
I'm not saying I thought it was IM -- that was just an example against your arguments that the mafia would know it wasn't mountainous based on having a RB.
You're singing to the choir on that one
But really its not too effective, for one thing games are boring if people don't talk, and while we haven't done it in a while we used to lynch or threaten to lynch less talkative players. I agree with the sentiment though, I've been accused more times than I can count, as scummer of town, of being scum for things I've said, very rarely have those comments selected as 'suspicious' been even vaguely connected to any plot I was about. Lurkers gain no victory but coattail victory, which is no victory, there's a reason why some of our players with sub-par victory streaks are also the most feared, so to speak.
Yeah, I don't see the fun in a victory like that, but it does work lol
Yeah, I get that, and honestly at this point I think there is some good from me just dying anyway instead of just being a festering distraction (though again, if somehow, I could stay alive that'd be just awesome). I have to say, though, that I would look closer at Kylia's vote as well as others who are generally inactive (like White Flame, etc.). I'm not 100% convinced on Kronin either. I wouldn't auto-lynch him Day 2 though on just what he said today, but he's my suspect atm, barring something else. Also, I should say that Napoleon is rather townie for a bunch of reasons... the clues are there. So, all in all, it's definitely not the worst that could have happened and I think there were definitely some good things as well, no matter which way this ends.
And honestly, I can't keep up with this much posting for much longer. Make up your minds already, people
Why on Earth, if your role was as an investigator and it mentioned ninjas as part of that, presumably "Can investigate someone to find out if they are a ninja" or such, would you be surprised mine didn't mention it? Anyway we'll get back to this in a moment...
As I said, usually there would be a message like "destroy all the ninjas to win" as part of the role message (victory condition). If that's NOT what you are referring to, then I have to re-consider my analysis that you are, in fact, town. So, please answer exactly what you mean by that... did you mean that ninjas were not mentioned anywhere at all, or that they weren't mentioned with regard to you role? If they weren't mentioned at all, don't you find that strange with regard to how a role message is usually formatted?
As mentioned in my first post, the word ninja/ninjas/etc does not appear in my RM, and I had no victory condition listed. I'm not sure what you are getting at with this new scummer implication. I feel like I'm going in circles explaining this... first of all, even if the DFs have a roleblocker, that doesn't mean there are any real town roles. That's the whole point of the Inadvertent Mountainous setup. And why should a roled townie claim to prevent other townies from thinking it is a vanilla game? What harm is there in that? It just destroys the plan anyway.
At best you just didn't think this out, I keep, and other keep, saying why this was dangerous, we've discussed things like this before in prior games. Again, first and foremost, people rarely guess other people's secret plans and don't always think things through. It is very likely others would have claimed vanilla quite honestly, and endangered everyone else. 12 players, 2 or 3 bad guys probably 3, probably 3 or more town roles, lets say three people claimed vanilla. Ninjas now have 6 candidates for role and probably half or more of them are, not good. Next, there's adding to a lie. IF a few people claimed vanilla a role could easily get spooked about assassination and claim vanilla, now a few Days later they need to make a RC because maybe they're the doc and we're near LyLo and the probable lynch candidate is someone they protected previously and foiled a kill on. OR you have a questionable role, like miller, town roleblocker, or jailkeeper, you sure don't want to be confronted when trying to sell that RC with having de facto lied earlier, like claiming to be some sort of investigatory role after saying the game might be vanilla, regardless of what you say about 'hypothetical' and it not being connected to your RM, that just doesn't fly. We're not going in circles here I just don't buy a roled character suggesting an all vanilla game that way.
And this is another thing, you argue on the one hand that you presented this idea as a theoretical thought, yet at the same time you present your actions on the matter as though you had a prepared strategy in mind with it? Which is it? Idle speculation or master plan, many of the former can turn into the latter surely but they typically don't exist as both simultaneously.
Um... yeah I've got nothing. Oops.
Well, I would be pretty surprised if there was another person with a role like the one I have. I think it was designed to be unique. But if you don't think I am what I say I am, then there is not much I can do about that, except die lol.
Now the final bit, your last few messages you've been saying you thought I was town because of my early comments, that's a lie, because you outright tried to label me scum as recently as two days ago and some of the explanations you're putting forward for your actions don't jibe with that ...
Well, that was a mistake on my part. I just came back from RBIRL and I wasn't really paying attention to your early comments (which really were like the first few posts of the game). My accusation was based on your role-fishing accusation, which had nothing to do at the time with your early remarks about RMs. The two didn't really become connected (in my mind at least) until a bit later.
"Well, by itself, no. As I've explained, I consider those that made a statement about ninjas early on to be townies. Lack of a statement, coupled with the slip, and by process of elimination, he's more likely to be scum than the other choices."
... so you thought I was scummy two days ago for my very comments on the matter but a week before that and now as well you think those prove me townie? What happened two days ago? Me accusing you of being scummy for your ambiguous comments? The ones around the very same points that made you think I was town?
No... I think you should re-read those posts. As I said, that's not what I was referring to. It's pretty clear I was referring to the role-fishing accusation, not the ninja-RM deal. The role-fishing accusation did seem like a scum trap to me, but I wasn't paying attention to the stuff from early on. So, if you can, please show where I said you were scummy for saying there were no ninjas in your RM. What I said you were scummy for was claiming a role, then accusing me of role-fishing to out the roles (self-fulfilling prophecy, if you wish).
No, I'm not buying it
It is possible your town, but you've made too many apparently deceptive moves for me to accept that as likely, and if you are, I think you may still represent a threat to us.
My 'deceptive' moves:
1. Responding to one of your first posts of the game in a theoretical fashion.
See, this is why scum should lurk like crazy, especially Day 1. Townies will just tunnel down and string themselves up over the most random things.
You're singing to the choir on that one
But really its not too effective, for one thing games are boring if people don't talk, and while we haven't done it in a while we used to lynch or threaten to lynch less talkative players. For what its worth, I do have some great doubts on this one, convince me I'm wrong, that I've got a Texas Sharpshooter Fallacy going on in your case, and I'll drop my vote. If there's no better candidate to be had, I'm content with blitzkrieging lurkers, its been a while since we rattled that cage and it could use it after last game. But there just seem to be too many contradictions in your statements, none of them are damning in of themselves, but... as a whole, and on day 1
Yeah, I get that, and honestly at this point I think there is some good from me just dying anyway instead of just being a festering distraction (though again, if somehow, I could stay alive that'd be just awesome). What role? *NM*
02/09/2010 01:02:04 AM

The role, as in the job to go on the treasure hunt. *NM*

F-T said that the Treasure Hunt would be resolved before the end of the day
