But you're probably going to want to make your character older, since at 16 he would have been born in the middle of the War of Power. Unless that's what you were going for, in which case ignore me. 
After the drilling of the Bore, there was the Collapse for about 100 years where society became increasingly more violent and lawless, until the War of Power broke out for about 10 years, which ended with sealing the Bore and so on and so forth. And then the Breaking lasted for like 400 years, but that's not really relevant now. I think we are a couple of years in ...
I have to make the character a bit older. Probably 20 would be more reasonable. I think this is set 'several' years into the Breaking, so by extension, several years after the War of Power ended.
Basically though, my character is untrained and on the lam after realizing he couldn't go back. And he is pretty young. I'm not too familiar with the timeline though so I don't know if that is realistic or not.
Goodness (or RJ, I guess) only knows how long it took to become Aes Sedai in the Age of Legends took, or how early people starting training. Maybe their channeling powers manifested later with the longer life span they had? We're just going to have to guess about it, I suppose.
