Introduction
Welcome to the RPG Board, if you are interested in joining a game, this post will help you identify which games are open, and which are running. Some games can pretty much be joined at any point, others have open recruitment only before a game begins, and some may have openings from time to time if a player had to resign. Additionally, after the list of active games is a list of previous games played, to give you an idea what is played. As circumstance permits this list will include a brief description of the game, and who is playing. The person running the game will be identified as its Moderator.

Guidelines and Resources for Starting a New Game
The staple game of the board is 'RAFO Mafia', a game in which players are assigned a secret role and attempt to eliminate the opposition by vote and assassination. The is run as a series, typically with games running back-to-back, although there is no rule against starting a Mafia game on your own, it is frowned on, as it is generally felt only one, possibly two, games of Mafia should be going on at once and their is a waiting list for those who wish to moderate, along with a prefered set of House Rules Game Moderators are expected to know.
For other games, the are no restrictions, but would-be-moderators should keep the following in mind before starting a game:
Dice rolling
If a game calls for random results, then the moderator must either roll for everyone, or find a way to adapt. By and large a d10 (ten-sided die) can be simulated by the second counter on a post's time stamp, a d6 by the second digit (00-59) and d20s as 1-20, and 21-40 & 41-00 minus 20 or 40 respectively. As players may feel a bit detached by not seeing their rolls or knowing the result until the moderator comes by, mods may wish to revamp rules to simplify any given action to a single die roll.
Example: A moderator has chosen to use the 1d10 roll method. A Character attempts something of moderate difficulty, and is told they need a 5 or better, they have a timestamp of 12:34:56 or a roll of 6, a success. The player may have a bonus from some skill as well to add on
If you're attempting to use standard RPG d20 rules, it is probably a good idea to eliminate as many dice rolls as possible, using averages perhaps. For instance a 2d6 weapon might be replaced as 1d10+1, which averages to 6.5 as opposed to 7 for 2d6 and is more likely to roll high or low than two dice, but makes a decent replacement. Telling players in advance what the number they need to hit is will probably be advantageous if using time stamp rolling, since they know if they've succeeded and can follow up instantly with their next action, damage roll, etc. Barring all else, combat is best resolved using a chat forum, we already have on on Skype for this purpose, Noteboard to Kronin al'Sulc for an invitation or of course, start your own.
In any event, rolling dice online can be accomplished quite easily with D&D's Dice Roller or one can even keep a record of rolls by players at Invisible Castle where players can create a free account and make rolls and prove they rolled what they said, which looks like this
