In case anyone was wondering why I haven't posted yet to either game, I was gone for the holiday, I did NB both mods to let them know but it seemed rather pointless to post RBIRL into a post game or reg thread for a relative short and expected absence. Back in a different way too, as much fun as modding can be, the two month hiatus from play is thankfully over.
Okie-dokie, glutted full of barbecue foods and a bit exhausted, so may take a day or so rest up and catch up, hope everyone else enjoyed their holiday, or their weekend if not from a celebrant locale.
First thoughts, from my RM and skimming the initial posts, as expected we are in a crossover game. With 16 players that means good odds are we have at least 3-5 and as many as 16 settings involved. We may have many scenarios so let me kick out a few that pop to mind:
We've one setting for each mafia or other, and townies all come from those.
We've one setting for all those third party members, 'all' possibly being one person, but say it was the Gotham Asylum crowd and we had The Joker, Two Face, and the Penguin making up the 'Jester' faction.
Everybody's from completely different settings, e.g. Darth Vader but no Luke or Han, Rand but no Ishamael.
We have 2-5, probably 2-3 characters from any given setting, which may or may not include a hero and baddy each.
Obviously lots of others, we don't know much yet, but if I had to guess, then assuming the 'Jester' remark wasn't a nod and wink at that role or a homicidal clown - e.g. The Joker or the thing from Stephen King's "It", then I'd guess two equally sized factions of 2-3 anti-town.
Let's talk a bit about the Jester Role. First, for those not familiar this role, think of it as an Anti-Survivor Role. They aim to get lynched, winning if lynched (Not NK'd, specifically lynched) and the game usually continues after they die, you don't really bother thinking of those still in as fighting for second place, because no one gives a flying snot about the amazing strategy employed by the jester in getting themselves lynched, the jester is just an additional winner, who loses if they get NK'd or survive until the end of the game. So it saves time to ignore them as a concern entirely. If there is one, then there is one, personally I doubt there is and I've no problem lynching someone even if I think they're the Jester, it's no loss in my book, except it nominally wastes a lynch.
Personally, I'm going to bet on two full factions, probably NK-capable with a role or two to power them up. Though one notes ranagrande didn't actually say there was a third faction, he just indicated a name for them, so let's not dig in our heels on that concept, it was a short name following a very long one, and could be a false flag, even the appearance of multiple NKs tonight won't definitely prove we're Tank-f, but for now that's the horse I'd put my bet on, with the plurality of 'Jesters' implying multiple.
Okay, name wise the full "Ninja Pirate Zombie Robot Monkey Clowns" is a bit much and even NPZRMC is a bit much, so let's go with NPZ, or "Nipz" and Jesters.
The odds are our Tank factions are the Nipz and Jesters and each side has 2 or 3 members, possibly 2 and 3, but IMO not likely 2-2, 4-4, or 4-2 so more likely 3-3. They may have identical makeup, which is likely to be chocolate with their group NK and likely a RBer.
The bad news is this likely means we have 2 NKs a night coming our way, the good news is these are likely to take a toll on the rival Tank faction and not just the Town, and similiar with lynches. If it is 3-3 then we're 6/16 scummer, 37.5%, and a lynch or NK has roughly 20% chance each of whacking someone we want dead, higher if either faction has an edge hunting their rivals since they will want to exterminate them first, I know from multiple personal experience that when on the dark side nothing is more disturbing than the thought of a random SK or rival faction trying to off you come twilight and that the chance of using them to kill off townies is not really worth it for the risk involved. So come the first night, if a townie dies, 6/15 or 20% of the players will be scum and 2 NKs will be landing each with a 3 in 12 chance of hitting someone we want dead too, rising as townies die off from lynches and NKs. Ironically the town gets a positive edge as it dies off since prob-town are less likely to be NK'd while Tank factions try to eliminate each other as a greater threat, so good odds are we'll be taking this down to 5 or fewer players for victory, which means more days which means our regular night roles are stronger.
Well, that's about all we know right now to speculate around, I'm guessing no deliberate red herrings, or very few. Let's try to gather some info, it won't help us much now but may later, but first some reminders:
1. You lie, you die - Success is its own excuse, we won't auto-lynch someone who has clearly lied to the town's benefit, but I fully plan to vote for anyone who does without a A+ excuse and will likely vote for them even then.
2. Don't RC, even truthfully, early unless you've been pressed, we don't need four or five people claiming vanilla to protect their necks from NK and lynch at the heightened odds of losing our cops, docs, etc. So with that in mind, please don't volunteer extra info to these questions unless you think it will aid the cause, and that's the 'Town wins' cause, not the 'I, personally, don't get lynched or NK'd' cause.
Questions - Please Respond Yes, No, Uncertain (UNC), Won't Answer Currently (WUC)
a) Are you from a setting that primarily revolves around Modern Earth, such that very little setting background is needed for an audience?
Examples:
I am from Twilight - Yes
I am from James Patterson's Alex Cross Detective Series - Yes
I am from DC Comics Batman/Superman - Yes
I am from Star Wars - No
I am from Wheel of Time - No
I am from Lord of the Rings - No
I am from Bram Stroker's Dracula - Uncertain (UNC)
I am from a cyberpunk series - UNC
I am from Dr. Who, but am a modern earth sidekick - UNC
b) Are you a relatively major character from a relatively well-known series?
Examples:
Superman - Yes
Batman - Yes
Gandalf - Yes
Darth Vader - Yes
Captain Kirk - Yes
Aquaman - UNC
Dr. Strange - UNC
Captain Janeway - UNC
The Borg from Star Trek - UNC
Breeze or Ham from Mistborn - No
Sate Pestage or Admiral Thrawn from Star Wars Extended Universe - No
Doomsday from Superman - No
Sammael from Wheel of Time - No
In other words, just saying the name without context is likely get recognition from most random people, then yes, saying the name with context "Robert Smith from the Cure" is likely to get a response from many people or a definite and immediate yes from anyone with an above average familiarity with the series, and saying the name with context is likely to get a blank stare form most people and maybe even a delay from fans of said series without context, e.g. me just saying Breeze or Ham outside of mentioning Mistborn is unlikely to even gain note from solid fans of the series, but in context most readers will remember immediately or need only a little prodding like "Sammael, the Forsaken from Wheel of Time" Don't worry about the relative popularity of the series, unless it's huge like Star Wars or Harry Potter.
Okay, again, truthful answers only please, my own are UNC and UNC for both so don't be too leery of using those, this second question isn't much of a lie detector question, people could be entirely truthful and give three different answer for say, Admiral Ackbar, but if you're Han Solo you should be answering No to a) and Yes to b)
