Besides, if the mafia realises that there is no claimed Doc, one of them might do it and gain practical unlynchability. What are you going to do then, admit that you lied and are really the doc? Who is the town going to trust? The claimed doc or the claimed liar?

Ehh that brings up a situation in which it would take a lot of guts to pull off a lie like that. I guess in that situation the true cop could claim, ask the town to lynch them to prove it or else hope the town believes them and then can prove it through the lynching of the DF claiming cop. Idk, it seems that there are multiple approaches to everything, lying isnt necessarily antitown as long as its cleared up
