The Unofficial Mod Criteria and Waiting List - Edit 1
Before modification by Isaac at 24/05/2010 07:27:27 AM
For newer players, we don't really have a method for picking mods, this game began about two years ago on Wotmania when Cor Amon began recruiting, and he modded our first three games, and myself, Gher, Kronin and Hobo were in that with two others not around anymore, quickly joined by FT (Game 1 was a short trial run) in game 2 and Darth Katie and Fox in game 3 (some other players too but none around recently). After the third game we started having the original players take turns as mod, and basically established a loose policy of whoever was most senior and wanted to run one and hadn't run one got to mod next. Of course as the number of players expanded, and because we didn't want people who'd previously run games to not be able to mod again, we developed a loose guideline of qualifiers and finally an informal 'every other senior' policy - which is to say prior mods would do a game, then a first time mod would, then a prior, then a new, and so on, with prior mods roughly going off who ran a good game and felt like running one again and hadn't done it in a while.
I've been keeping a waiting list of would-be first time mods in the order they expressed an interest with the unspoken caveat that the expression of that interest shouldn't come up until they qualify to mod. Currently that list is:
Fox and Ravens
Ranagrande
Beetnemesis
Bergyion
And of course to avoid it being a use-or-lose thing where someone might decide they have to mod now even though it's not a good time for them to do it, if someone on that list passes they just stay at the top but of course should make it clear they are planning to mod the next next one or something.
Okay, so what are the criteria for those who want to go on the list? Well, we've slowly raised the bar on this since initially we didn't have many options, but it more or less is as follows:
Has been an active player in the last few games, and 'active' means active, moderating might involve going a week without posting but requires one to look at the board a lot and get votes updated and questions answered on a quick turnaround. Inactive mod = bad, RBIRL mod, especially after day 1, is doable, you just tap a dead player to regency and send them your game notes, though obviously this isn't a great thing either.
Has played at least 3 and preferably 5 or more games
Preferably has some prior experience moderating, DMing, or generally running games
Knows the rules and roles, and not just the basics, e.g. knows what happens in standard mafia when a roleblocker blocks the doc, the doc docs the RBer and a scummer NKs that RBEr. Knows why a cultist normally dies if they try to convert a scummer or at least fails and why that is important to the game
Does not suck at the game
Okay, if anyone would like to add their name to the list, please let me know, it's not official - it can't be really since anyone can open a game on the RPG board whenever they choose - but by and large go loosely off a first-come-first-serve basis moderated by common sense.
