Return to the Day 4 Chronology -------------------->
Day 5 Chronology
Dawn 5 Message – Amys
With no allies, you retire early to your room for the night
Dawn 5 Message – Darth Katie
You quietly trail Ranagrande Sedai as she returns to her rooms after running some unknown errand near the dawn. Once you're sure she is heading that way, you quickly take another corridor that intersects with the one shortly before her room. Finding good place to see the hallway without being observed, you wait. A moment later she walks into sight, and you channel, hurling a ball of fire with as much of the power as you can summon.
You can barely see her past the roaring inferno sooting towards her, but she stops and embraces the power, whirling to meet the approaching flames. You see weave a wall of air, and hope that the powerful weaving can penetrate the shield. Yet before it strikes the barrier, it seems to weaken slightly, from no action of yours or hers that you can see, fragments of flame scattering off the ball even as it strikes the shield. You see Ranagrande knocked back by the powerful blast, the shield of air crumpling under the power, but she is still moving, not on fire or consumed by the blast. A powerful fireball erupts back in your general direction, soaring down the hall in return, but you duck and flee quickly, the blast, as strong as your own should have been, obliterates the door at your end of the hallway, but you are already running as fast as you can away, not wanting to risk further battle with this equally potent foe.
Dawn 5 Message – BlackAdder
You doze off in a chair in your room late in the night, but wake in alarm as you feel a powerful force strike your wards, tearing through them. Racing out of your room toward where you felt the strike come from, you see smoke and fire everywhere in the hall, Ranagrande is rising, apparently having been knocked down by some force, but does not appear to be badly injured, and does not see you. Based on the damage, you doubt Ranagrande would be so well off even with your protection had not something else also happened. Channeling quickly you dampen some of the flames, but not wanting to risk exposure and realizing that nothing is in danger but the rugs and tapestries in the hallways, many already ruined, you race back to your room.
Dawn 5 Message – Ranagrande
Near the dawn you leave your room to slip a note under Beetnemesis's door, and return to your room. Just before reaching it, as you pass by a connecting hallway, you see a sudden brightness out of the corner of your eye. Embracing the power and whirling toward the connecting corridor you see an immense ball of flame hurtling your way. You weave air, and raise a strong a shield as you can, knowing the ball of flame might be able to penetrate event that. You can not see beyond the flames, brighter than the sun, but just as it prepares to hit your shield you see it seem to shatter, bits of flame breaking off the immense inferno right before it strikes your shield. What remains is still potent and smashes into your shield even as you weave another defense, barely getting it up as the shockwave strikes you and hurls you back. Rising quickly from the floor you hurl a ball of fire back down the corridor, hoping it will kill your attacker or at least preoccupy them.
The entire area is on fire, rugs and tapestries burning and filling the corridors with smoke. No other attack comes. You flee to your rooms as you hear the guards yelling, weaving air to clear a path through the fire, smoke, and falling bits of masonry.
Dawn 5 Message – Kronin
You spot Gher, skulking in the gardens, he is looking at something but before you can tell what or who you are both startled by a roaring explosion and bright light from inside the manor. You run towards him, drawing your sword as he stares at where the flames are erupting. Another blast erupts near the first, but you do not let yourself be distracted by it. He whirls toward you just as close, arm lifting in a pathetic attempt to stop your attack. You strike as you pass him, and as you slow, you hear an object strike the ground behind you, you turn, stopping his head with one foot as you watch his body crumple to the ground. You don't stop to clean and sheath your blade until you are hidden by a copse of trees, then return to your room.
Dawn 5 Message – Beetnemesis
After your conversation with Gher, you go to sleep, and awaken before the dawn to cries of alarm, dressing hurriedly, you go to see what has happened, smelling smoke, and see a note that has been slid under your door. Stooping, you pick it up, break the seal and read...
"Have you ever studied in the White Tower? Please respond with a 'yes' or 'no' (but not both) somewhere in your first post today.
Your honest answer to that question will be more helpful to the town -- and to you personally -- then you might think."
Surprised, you fold the note and tuck it into your clothes before exiting into the hallway...
Dawn 5 Message – Talic
You get little sleep that night after staying up late talking with your sisters. And are awakened by the sound of an explosion, then another.
Daybreak
Day 5 Morning Message
Location – Saladea, outskirts of Maradon
Date: Fourtheenth Day of Saven, 979 NE
The remaining guests are awakened before dawn to the sounds of an explosion, then another. The guards and servants race to put out fires as tapestries and rugs are consumed by flames. Much of that wing of the manor has been damaged, though it appears no one was killed. In the ensuing chaos it is some time before Gher is found in the gardens, his headless body lying in a heap. Only seven in number, the remaining guests meet once more to deliberate.
Event: Lunch Interlude Day 5
Ranagrande settles into the chair vacated by the dead Questioner, smoothing her black dress before tapping the gavel. “I'm given to understand that Lord Cheade is almost recovered and plans to chair our deliberations himself starting tomorrow. So a little good news amongst the our other woes. Beetnemesis, you have the reports from the guards?”
The newly elected Advocate chuckles and shakes her blond hair. “I do, mostly a list of damages. The site of the second fiery explosion was just outside of Blaine's old quarters, it destroyed the door and much of the wall around it, and definitely took place outside in the corridor. The damage was more intense there than inside the room.”
“The other room was less damaged?” Asks Amys.
“Rooms, actually, the first strike probably went off somewhere in the middle of the corridor, the walls on either side were fairly equally scorched.” Says Talic, nodding her head. “I looked when the smoke settled and fireball definitely exploded against something, all the major scorch marks run back down the hall towards the second explosion. Had it not been impeded, you'd expect to see the scorch marks run in both directions, getting lighter the farther from the blast you went.”
“What about Gher?” Ranagrande asks.
“Decapitated, like the others.” Says Kronin al'Sulc. “Presumably a sword or axe.”
“Or with the power.” BlackAdder says. “Every man left in this room wears a sword after all, so you're not Aiel, but I'd not take as a given that it was one of us.”
“Assuming of course that it's been the same person every time doing the beheading.” Says Ranagrande, “As you say, we've no shortage of swords nor people with other ways of doing such a thing, any particular reason for decapitation?”
Kronin al'Sulc shrugs. “Possibly just because it's fast, no chance for survival, no hidden armor, and no outcry or retaliatory strike.”
“I'd have to agree with that.” Says Ranagrande. “Well, hopefully we will have no further examples, let us return to our discussions.”
Day 5 Twilight – Darth Katie Lynched
The ancient Aes Sedai doesn't even blink as the last vote is cast. Instead she gestures towards the approaching guards and a ball of flame erupts from her hand, which streaks toward them. They leap to get out of the way even as she stands and throws another ball of fire at those at the table. The first seems to fizzle out and the second strikes an invisible barrier. The blasts scatter objects and people everywhere, and she lifts her hand another ball of flame appearing, then guttering out. She gasps in horror, looking down at her hands.
“No!” She wails, even as one of the guards fires a crossbow.
Standing mutely, a crossbow bolt sticking out from her chest, the powerful sister crumples to the ground. The guests and remaining guards flee the burning room, ceiling beams and masonry falling and burying the slain Aes Sedai.
Twilight
Twilight 5 Message – BlackAdder
You watch in horror as the creature pretending to be Darth Katie Sedai twists and transforms into a monstrous eyeless trolloc, twelve feet high, clad in cadin'sor, and breathing fire. It breathes fire at the guards, and you channel, dissipating the heat into surrounding objects, like the floor and ceiling. It breathes again and this time the flames come toward you and the others, but break on a wall of frigid cold air, your arms are freezing, goosebumps everywhere. You stretch out, channeling spirit at this spiritless monster, knowing intuitively that only spirit can stop such a creature. As it prepares to breath fire once more, your sword of spirit slams into it, meeting resistance, but cleaving through. It wails in pain, your spirit-sword bringing black-green blood from it's foul heart. It wavers, and you yank on the beams above its head with the Power, dropping tons of burning timbers and masonry about it.
Turning, ready to flee the crumbling room, you see tapestry, and realize the Aiel are hiding in it. Seeing you've spotted them they charge, and you hurl lightning at them, and fire, and then falling masonry. The wall buckles and explodes backward, sending the evil fanged monsters back. Channeling once more, fire and air, you make a clean tunnel of cool air toward the door and flee to your rooms. Massive stones fall on you, bouncing harmlessly off your shield of air as you exit the destroyed room.
Twilight 5 Message – Kronin
For whatever reason, Darth Katie Sedai's fireballs kill no one, not that you stick around to find out. Troubled that none of your allies survive, but unsurprised, you knew they were a pack of weak fools to begin with, you can't help but be glad the witch is dead. You go off to your rooms to contemplate what to do.
Twilight 5 Message – Amys
The room collapses on itself, guards racing to throw water and dirt on top of the fires trying to spread out. You flee to the guard room, realizing in horror that this Aes Sedai was a darkfriend.
Twilight 5 Message – Beetnemesis
You flee the inferno and collapsing masonry, with Gher dead and your ring spent, you have little to do but go to your room and hope no one tries to murder you tonight.
Tower Group Night Message 5 A
“Black Ajah.” Talic Sedai snarls as she closes the door to Ranagrande Sedai's rooms
“Quite possibly. I don't believe she broke the Three Oaths however, at least not so that we can prove it. At the end there her life was clearly in danger, the Three Oaths don't specify whether or not that danger is deserved as a condition. Also, an Aes Sedai who is a Darkfriend is not necessarily of the Black Ajah, if it exists, any more than a wilder turned darkfriend is. Being a murderer does not automatically imply membership in some secret assassin's guild.”
“Do you seriously believe she wasn't?” Talic asks in disbelief.
“I don't know, for the moment it is likely irrelevant. Did you notice what happened with her first attack?”
“Not really, I saw you weave a shield of air, and her the fireballs.”
“Precisely, I did not weave anything to stop that first fireball, I was preparing to shield her and barely had time to drop that weave and weave the shield against the second attack.”
Talic shrugs. “I did not stop it, I could not.”
“Someone else did it.”
“We'd have seen the weaves.” Talic protested. “More likely it weakened when you tried to shield her, which you did.”
“I did not shield her, I told you, I dropped the weave to deflect the second fireball.”
Talic shakes her head. “I saw her lose the power, she was shielded.”
“No, she was not, she was not shielded, she was...” Ranagrande Sedai shudders, “... she was stilled.”
Talic Sedai gasps in horror.
