But if you think that's sad, what to think of the Stockholm syndrome situation going on among the Republicans in Congress? Apart from a handful of braindead imbeciles like MTG who actually swallow the Trump hype, and an even smaller handful of Senators who still managed to keep their positions while speaking out against the worst Trump excesses, the large majority of Republicans in Congress are very well aware of what a clusterfuck this government is and how much damage it's already doing and will still do to their constituents as well as all the rest of the world, but don't dare to actually say it out loud.

Some of Trump's cabinet nominations are a good example, like Kennedy - whether from a pro-science medical perspective (hello Doctor-Senators Paul and Cassidy, anyone home?) or from a religious right pro-life perspective (most Republicans in the Senate), or even simply partisan politics what with the guy having run for the Democratic nomination all of 18 months ago, approving Kennedy's nomination would normally have been a complete non-starter. But when Trump says I nominate this guy, all they can do is crawl on their belly and do as they're told. Mike Pence was about the only prominent religious right politician who dared to point out the glaringly obvious there - because Mike Pence committed the cardinal sin of actually prioritizing his duty and the Constitution over his slavish devotion to Trump, so now he's persona non grata in the Republican party anyway and has nothing left to lose by speaking his mind.
