What I have actually heard is that as of, or after, February 26 of this year, you will no longer be able to download e-books that you have purchased from Amazon via Kindle, and you will only be able to read them on-line or in the app.
In other words, your ability to access the books that you have purchased will depend entirely on retaining your Amazon account.
Also, it means that Amazon will be able to delete books at will, or alter the contents, censor etc.
So you should probably download your Kindle libraries while you have the chance.
