They have direct access to some of the most sensitive government systems (that such access apparently exists is sending my various IT friends into apoplexy by itself, but I digress) and can edit core systems and data on a whim. The Senate has a GOP majority. If what they are doing is badly needed and is nothing to worry about, why can't Musk and his various associates be vetted the way everyone has been vetted before?
Perhaps because most of our elected representatives are crooks irrespective of party affiliation? How, for example, does a man who graduated from law school in 1975 and has never worked anywhere since except in the public sector, amass a net worth of over 80 million? Congressmen and Senators don't make stupid money.
As I replied to Paul, the GAO has been reporting on the problem of improper payments since 1997. Not a fucking thing has been done about it through proper channels. How is that supposed to inspire confidence that proper channels is still the way to go?
I'm not saying the level of access isn't an issue. It certainly is. But Congress granting access for truly comprehensive audits is never going to happen. So what's the solution?
