Try living somewhere else while your team is bad/mediocre. In the pre-Sunday night football and Thursday night football, pre streaming, pre NFL redzone days, moving away from your team means you just don't get to watch them unless they're GREAT or they're playing against a local team. Living in Atlanta in the early 2000s I barely got to watch them.

Growing up, we could only watch the Giants when they were playing away. All home games were blacked out and couldn't be broadcast to areas 50 miles or less from the home city. The only work around was if there was a CBS affiliate based over 50 miles from NYC, but still within the region and carried the Giants games. And your rooftop antenna could pick them up. That policy didn't change until 1973, at which time home games could be aired as long as at least 85% of the tickets had been sold by 72 hours before kickoff. Since at the time there was a decades long waiting list for Giants tickets, all home games were finally televised.
