Bureaucratic overreach in a Blue State - Update - Edit 1

Before modification by damookster at 03/11/2024 04:53:48 PM

It is difficult to express in words just how angry I am about what happened this week in New York State with Peanut the squirrel. For any who live in a bubble, Peanut was a baby squirrel, raised from infancy by NY state resident Mark Longo when his mother was killed by a car. Mark had Peanut as a pet for seven years, and as P'Nut, he was the star of an Instagram account with over 500,000 followers.

Apparently one or more of Mark's neighbors called the state and complained he was harboring wild animals without a license. Yes, his pastime was rescuing injured animals and releasing them back into the wild when healed, and yes he did not have a state permit to do so. So agents of the state commission demanded entry into his home, without a warrant and seized Peanut and an injured raccoon Mark was treating. When the terrified squirrel bit one if the agents on the hand, THEY TOOK BOTH ANIMALS TO THEIR LAB AND KILLED THEM TO TEST FOR RABIES!

His biggest mistake was not telling these stormtroopers to get the fuck off his property unless they had a warrant and then immediately calling his lawyer. Christ on a cracker, NEVER let them in the house without signed papers.

Exigent circumstances? A house pet who had lived in the home for seven fucking years had rabies and they weren't aware? Bullshit.

Let me repeat myself. This occurred in NY State, where the Governor is a Democrat and the legislature is also controlled by the Democrats.

But all Republicans are Nazis.
