I'm okay with spunky feisty Galadriel in theory, in terms of lore-accuracy, though if I cared deeply about that sort of thing there'd be a lot to criticize about the way they actually portrayed it. She's only a few thousand years old at this point. Let her cook.
And plenty of fans insisted that we didn't need the Lord of the Rings sullied by a film adaptation, but the films were enjoyable, even when Orlando Bloom was skateboarding down stairs on a shield. Fans are goofballs. Nothing is harmed by an adaptation. The books aren't going up in smoke just because some silly TV show is airing. I'm about to crack open LotR for the first time in ages in large part because of the show.
