Do the showrunners remember that Ents are supposed to be all male, or have they decided, in their hubris, to tackle the Entwives as well, in the arrogant assumption they could deliver something more satisfying than the mystery and sense of loss their story evokes in Two Towers?
This is the Second Age so Entwives are still around. Sometime during this age they would abandon the west to move east. Though given the compressed timeline in which the show dwells, the Third Age is right around the corner in Season 5 of this sometimes accursed show. Tolkien's writings indicated that the Entwives either were killed during the war to come or moved even farther to the East.
