As much as I want to ignore this Presidential campaign, there are two things that have me puzzled.
- Kamala Harris is not the challenger. She is the incumbent Vice President. If she has viable plans to help those struggling with the economy, why do we have to wait six months to implement them? What’s wrong with now?
This is a problem that faces every incumbent or semi-incumbent when things aren't generally going well. "If you want to fix things, then fix them now." Sometimes you can argue that you can't fix things because the other party holds the Senate or the House but that's tough when your party holds one and the other has a pretty thin margin in favor of your opponents. If Harris had won the nomination in a standard primary process she would have had a chance to distinguish herself from Biden by being strategically critical of some of his policies but since Dr. Jill has been probably reluctantly convinced to let him step aside, there's a danger of being too critical and seeing how much fight is left in the Biden family. I think Jill has the ability to wreck the whole election for the Dems if you make her too mad. Maybe even Joe does, too.
I don't think Harris has to answer those questions for us, though, since the press isn't holding her feet to the fire to answer... anything, really. And for Democratic voters - not being Trump will be enough.
I think the claim was that Joe Biden's staff was running the country when Biden was president - I specifically remember writers I follow referring to 'President Klain' due to beliefs on the Right that Biden wasn't mentally fit to be President. The Democratic party's response to Biden being exposed at the Biden-Trump debate sort of convinced me that such concerns were probably correct all along. Now we seem to have undergone some sort of 'soft coup' where Biden has been dropped from the ticket and it appears he's been even further reduced to figurehead status. All this is pretty rich coming from a party that's always accusing their opponents of not respecting democracy.
I guess the Democrats would argue that he's still fit to be President (and still totally is large and in charge!) but that maybe the Republicans are sort of right that he's starting to slip and it's better to replace him after the election.
The last two presidential elections I voted Libertarian but this time I'll probably write in 'None of the Above'. Trump will still win my state though.
