Sunday was an interesting day. Our area got over 10 inches of rain, with some nearby towns getting up to 12. I live on a hill above the Housatonic River so while the flooding was close, it didn't come near my house. But some of the worst damages, including two women who were swept away and drowned, came within 15 miles of me.

But that wasn't really the point of this post.

While perusing the online news coverage, I came across this gem in the NY Post: "After ravishing Connecticut, the storm system moved on to Long Island."

I have questions.

Were both the storm and Connecticut satisfied by this ravishing? Did they share a subsequent cocktail and cigarette, or simply fall asleep? Was post-coital cuddling involved? Or more likely, was it a simple slam, bam, thank you ma'am affair?

Or was ravaging the word the writer should have employed?
