I will vote for who I think will do best at standing up to Xi and Putin. - Edit 1

Nevertheless, I do have to point out that coming from someone who just indicated he might vote for Trump instead, that's pretty hilarious.

Similarly for the sentence following it - yes, absolutely, historians would blame him if his obstinacy ends up handing the country to Trump with all that that may entail, but if you're planning to actually vote for Trump yourself, why is that a bad thing for you?

The issues I care most about are foreign policy and immigration. On immigration Biden is a total failure and the porous border has been a nightmare, depressing wages for the lowest skilled workers, and letting in economic migrants rather than true refugees/asylum seekers. I side with the Republican position on strong, controlled borders. Trump is a nationalist, but he does believe in the rule of law (I do not accept or believe in the threat to democracy argument and yes, I know you think I will get what I deserve. Here's hoping Jens, with his TDS and inability to have a normal conversation gets what he deserves as well). So I would rather see Trump on the border.

Now on the international state, I very much believe in our alliances and in the post WWII order. But I also recognize we are in a multipolar world and most likely in the early years of Cold War II. Biden's disastrous rushed withdrawal from Afghanistan probably was one of the biggest pieces of data that Putin used in deciding on his invasion of Ukraine. I do not trust that Putin and Xi will sit idly by while reports of Biden's cognitive decline continue. So if there were a normal Bush or Reagan Republican rather than Trump running, I'd be overjoyed. But there isn't. And let's face it, Europe had from 2014 forward to start beefing up their militaries and paying the 2% into NATO and chose not to. While NATO slept, Russia did not.

I don't think we will agree. And that's fine. I respect you and your intelligence and I understand the view from Europe is different than the view from here in the US. I voted for Biden in 2020. Who I will vote for in 2024 right now is leaning towards Trump due to the debate and its aftermath. But either way, what matters more in who will be in charge of Congress of January 2025.
