I, too, despise the misuse of "literally" and "lay down" instead of "lie down." A NYT guest editorial suggested I get over it. I suggest the writer pound sand.
I didn't give any thought to "umbraphile" before utilizing it. If I was a student of languages, like Tom, it might have irritated me as well. But I'm not, so it didn't and I likely will not have many opportunities to use it again. So there is that.
Whereas pineapple on pizza is a disgrazia.
And dipping pizza in ranch dressing is an infamita!
