Well, actually, not really, I've never listened to an audiobook in my life so I'm not in the least offended, but I didn't want to disappoint your desire for controversy.
Some of my friends in my book club listen to our books as audiobooks, or do a mix of both listening and reading - sounds weird to me but apparently it works for them. Can't say I've noticed any difference in how much they seemed to have taken away from the books in question.
But yeah, it's not for me either, same thing as with podcasts: I don't want to listen to texts when I could just be reading them instead. Not unless it's poetry (read by a good reader), good debate (i.e. not the political kind), or other speech that really gains a lot from being heard out loud.
