I don't give up easily, my friend. There is too much joy in everyday life. Each sunrise I see is a blessing at my age, no matter how young I feel. I've seen to many obituaries of my peers.
There is joy in seeing my new grandniece. Joy in preparing myself a meal and realizing I did it well. Joy in new restaurants, in wines I haven't tasted, in small batch bourbon and good cigars. Joy in music, concerts from performers I love, and from being amazed at my niece's husband and his band.
Joy in the beach and the mountains. Joy in the realization, even if late in life, of how much I love all my family.
But what about when I don't recognize any of these things?
If and when that happens, it's time "to awaken from the dream." I stubbornly believe that too.
