I think its true that Tolkien clearly comes down on one side on the debate of using the enemy's tactics to serve the "good". He does so repeatedly, though, so its fair to see this is a theme that is important to him.
I would buy, for instance, that Galadriel in her youth drew this line somewhat differently, but that the rise of Sauron made her see the error in that. However, Celebrimbor clear does disagree with that view. The urge to convert the Valar's doom into paradise by creating Rings that recalled the Valar's power IS a questionable moral judgment, and we see various folks come to various decisions on it. Even Elrond and Galadriel kept and used their Rings, relatively openly. Cirdan decided to give his up, coming closest to Sam's success.
There are other reason's I'm worried this show will be a train wreck, but this issue isn't a bother.
