My title at work, for what it's worth, is Global Process Specialist, Logistics Deliver. What that means is I'm considered expert in North American transportation business processes and in the use of our transportation management system (TMS).
In this role, I spend a lot of time on conference calls. Most of these calls touch somehow on the TMS. Frequently they are around request for enhancements, which are nearly always requests to automate a process that currently requires human involvement. Or, as expressed in conference call speak, from manual touch to systemic.
Why did I italicize "systemic?" Because so many people say, "systematic," instead. This grates on my nerves like nails on a chalkboard. It doesn't irritate me quite as much when our techs use systematic, because for most of them, English is their third or fourth language. But when native English speakers do so it drives me crazy (yes, I said native. and crazy. sue me).
One person who is on most of the calls I am on also consistently says, "irregardless." This makes me grind my teeth in irritation. I realize some dictionaries have given up and now include this bastardization of the legitimate word, "regardless." But I refuse to wave the white flag.
If this makes me a bad person, so be it.
So, what are some of your work related pet peeves?
