had this whole theory (actually many theories) of how childhood development occurred, and how different brain areas in the child are not literally unconnected, but for simplicity sake we are going to call say they are unconnected, and eventually they synchronize together (this synchronization takes years.) Of course this is not literally how he described it but I am trying to explain it in a few sentences, not pages and so on.
For a child external stimuli, senses, action, and speech are all unconnected. But via the process of internalization the child begins to connect action with words, and via instruction such as a parent the external words become internal words, until you get a cop in your head that gives yourself commands, and eventually you are not even aware of the cop of the head for it is completely internalized.
For example the pledge of allegiance, if you video record an adult, and they are saying the pledge of allegiance in their head “internally”, and not trying to make external sound yet are participating in a group thing. If you video record them, their throat and face will make micro movements literally similar to how they would make similar movements if it is was outloud. One brain area is still doing the language and motor act, while another brain area is trying to suppress / dampen the intensity of the stimuli to keep the pledge of allegiance “private.”

Back to Wheel of Time stuff, perhaps it is the Taint breaking down the lives. Or it can be other things? Perhaps it is Rand’s Ta'veren nature? If Mat modifies laws of chance, and Perrin deals with our drives and how people influence each other, including doing things we would not normally do…
Perhaps Rand’s Ta’veren nature allows him access to his memories of his previous life, and he hears it as a voice in head, as an external person, for he does not have the life experiences (yet) to learn how to practice and perfect channeling for he is only a novice, at first. Likewise Rand has all these other hang ups for he sees double binds every, you are trapped if you do X, but not doing X is a different form of disaster ( Between Scylla and Charybdis ) and he needs to see all the possible permutations as an outside voice in his head, driving him mad, until he is ready to integrate?
