Teleology was simply the belief that the purpose of something was more important than what caused it to come to be.
I suppose there is value in thinking about how one's first person experiences ultimately color their perception. I also suppose it's naive to hope that explaining how a conservative "should" think might somehow influence others to not perceive the word as an epithet. To your point, how I think is unique to me and cannot be projected successfully on anyone else. It has been determined by my experiences.
