I do not care much for college football. I prefer the NFL and I am a fan of the NY Giants, first and foremost. These days, in fact, I don't follow the rest of the league all that much, just the Giants and Giants-adjacent happenings.
But last December I actually commented on a college football story, where I bemoaned the diminishment of a special teams player for the U of Florida, forcing him to share his Player of the Week accolade with a much less deserving player, who checked a demographic box. I even referred to that football player as:
"An obscure football player, who might go on to fame and fortune as an NFL star, but much more probably, statistically speaking, has just hit the peak of his athletic career which will end shortly."
In the same paragraph, I described myself as "a person whose attitude toward college football players can best be summarized as 'wake me up when they get picked in the NFL draft'"
Sooo, last month, the NFL draft happened. Where the subject of my prior post, a Mr. Kadarius Toney, was selected as the first round draft pick of the NY Giants.
And given my antipathy to drafting ball-handlers in the first round, for here on out, I have the ultimate argument with which to lambaste Dave Gettleman, the Giants executive ultimately responsible for slecting Toney: "You spent your first draft choice on a guy who could not even beat out for Player of the Week, a weak-legged kicker, playing her first ever football game and a woman to boot. How did you think this would go well, Dave?"
