Honestly no.
Because it’s so obviously more complex and bigger than Trump could ever wish. And that guy could probably wish for his name etched on the moon.
He encouraged people to be there...
He called for the crowd to, with anger, march down to the Capitol.
Then he went to the White House to watch it on tv.
Thank God Donald Trump is a fucking idiot; had he walked down to the Capitol with the crowd, they would have executed the entire legislative branch for him.
I’m not going to dispute this, though I don’t agree with your opinion on this completely. It’s true enough, in any case.
I agree with you that Trump played his part in all of this. I think we would disagree on the intentions and the goals of his, and in truth, we can only infer these anyway. Either way, there’s no doubt he was antagonistic, bombastic, and aggressive.
However it was just that: a part. And a small part by my estimation, as I detailed in the original post.
I do hope you are being hyperbolic. First, Trump didn’t really get muzzled at all, it was everybody else. So, do you believe that because they couldn’t censor Trump, these tech platforms decided to... take it out on everybody else?
No, censorship has been accelerating and metastisizing independently of Trump, and encapsulates movements around cancel culture, #metoo, the LGBT community, and ultimately stems from ideas espoused in Critical Theory.
Having followed Trump fairly closely during his time as President, I have found little he has said or done as seditious. I have found no hate speech, no totalitarian ideas, not fascist rhetoric/behavior, and no racism.
I have found a lot of distortion of events and statements into making it look like all of the above. The best examples of this were the infamous Charlottesville speech and his speech on immigration.
I personally don’t believe that there is a peaceful way to accomplish anything anymore. We have a one-party system that is addicted to monetary stimulus and bows to corporate and military interests that prefers their subjects divided and dependent. Anything that works counter to these interests is treated with ridicule and suppression.
I follow that rule until it involves too many people to attribute it to. And in the case of the, frankly, outlandish response to Trump in the last four years by the News and Media corporations, Hollywood, Democrats and Republicans alike, the tech companies, and so on, I think we found evil.
Well it’s there and it exists. Seriously, just Google “all lives matter,” and you will see reports from major news outlets (CNN, ABC, Vox, etc), making exactly these implications.
You just said it: “Was it as terrible as the media is making it out to be? Maybe not.” You admit there is distortion.
And if you agree with me that there has been distortion from the beginning (we haven’t even talked about Russiagate... TWO WHOLE YEARS!), and this distorted reporting has been building and building... well, I already have granted that he played his part.
I’m saying that it is all part of the mindset of the people who make up that crowd who participated at the rally. The people who feel that the government overreached in it’s attempt to control the virus are likely the same people who feel that the election was fraudulently won. It’s the same people who follow alternative news or conspiracy news who had their guy banned from YouTube, or Twitter.
The insult of not only hampering the economy perhaps irreparably, but to have it flaunted by the elite class in this “rules for thee but not for me” mentality guaranteed to make this a galvanized issue.
But what does this have to do with Donald Trump entreating a mob to stop a democratic process?
Let me ask you: do you think that if investigations were allowed to be conducted, and I mean really conducted, that there would even have been a rally that day? Do you think that if the Media had been more even-handed throughout his term, would there have been this zealousness to the supporters of Trump? Do you think that if people were able to air our their grievances without censure, and have their opinions voiced, would there have been a movement at all?
Sorry, but there is justification for the anger, and this has been building much longer than four years. Trump was not the cause of any of this. He, like so many other things, was a symptom of the problem that we’ve had for over forty years. There is no voice for liberty or peace. We have two parties. One party is pro-war and engages in social programs, and one party is pro-social programs and engages in war.
People wanted a leader to break this cycle, a hero who could lead us to new prosperity. Fate handed us a troll. And the people said, “it will have to do.”
