In the speech before the events: "And after this, we're going to walk down there, and I'll be there with you, we're going to walk down ... to the Capitol and we are going to cheer on our brave senators and congressmen and women," Trump told the crowd. "And we're probably not going to be cheering so much for some of them. Because you'll never take back our country with weakness. You have to show strength and you have to be strong."
"We will never give up. We will never concede. It doesn't happen. You don't concede when there's theft involved," Trump said. "Our country has had enough. We're not going to take it anymore."
Tweet Jan 6, '21 @ 6:01 pm ET: These are the things and events that happen when a sacred landslide election victory is so unceremoniously & viciously stripped away from great patriots who have been badly & unfairly treated for so long. Go home with love & in peace. Remember this day forever!
So no, he didn't explicitly said to break windows, storm the capitol etc. But not far from it, either. And not once have I seen or heard him denounce these actions, only tell them to stop (but really they are great people, actually).
93% of BLM protests were peaceful, according to the numbers I've seen.
Re the Kavanaugh hearings: The US Capitol Police said 61 people were removed from the committee room and arrested for disorderly conduct. [ie shouting]
A further nine were charged with crowding, obstructing or incommoding in the building [but they came in through the regular ways].
So that was also quite a different thing than last night in Washington.
Charlottesville... Yeah, that was actual nazis. And Trump couldn't even say more than "We condemn in the strongest possible terms this egregious display of hatred, bigotry, and violence on many sides."
I certainly don't think any riots this summer were right, nor do I think attacking speakers on campuses or officials in restaurants is right. But all those are on a lower magnitude than what happened yesterday, in terms of how much they affect democracy.
