Since I live out here on West Coast time, it was early for us. I happened to be up early. My alarm was the radio, and when it went off, I heard the DJ talking about "crazy stuff back in New York..." which is when I turned it off. It wasn't until I was in the shower that it finally clicked that something was happening.
So I got out of the shower...didn't even dry off, just wrapped the towel around myself and went and turned the TV on. Moments later, the second plane hit. Just kept standing there watching...until I was dry. Not too much later, I got a call from a buddy who informed me that a friend of ours was at work in one of the towers. We went to school with her, and she got some job at one of the financial firms.
I was working second shift back then, so I was home all day. I then went into work, where we listened to stuff on the radio. Back in those days, wotmania had chat. I was in chat with a bunch of friends, when I was informed that a second person I knew from school was missing (he was a lawyer who taught a seminar that I took). Since then, when thinking through stuff, I still remember vividly the plane hitting, watching people jump and the camera following them down, the towers collapsing...
Thousands of miles away and tangentially effected, yet the memory is as fresh as ever.
