Here is the thing, it is not about the sacredness of life when people talk about riots. It is about property or the fact there is both simultaneously property destruction and the possibility of the threat of the loss of life.
More people die each day due to other causes. Like you said in your post, abortion does happen. Yet no one talks about it.
I mean yeah, this is accurate. More people die in car accidents in the USA every day(? that may not be accurate, I'm not actually looking this shit up right now) than during 9/11. However, I have to agree with Nargs that intent matters, at least for guilt.
Let's say this fire, started by these utter idiots of new parents, whose child is probably going to die locked in a babyseat in a parking lot, kills 10 people. Those idiot parents did not murder those 10 people. Manslaughter you can probably get them for, you could certainly sue them civilly, but that was not murder.
If someone burns down a shop in riot and someone dies, that's murder. Yes yes, your joke was pretty funny, but if we are gonna get down to the actual nitty-gritty, surely you see how the intent behind the actions that started the fire can lead to differences in guilt, if not liability, right?
shrug
Again, for the record, I agree with you here. It's sad and vapid and, hilariously, the fact that this sort of shit sets off these sorts of reactions is what is making me so depressed about the current state. This shit's funny! Laugh, folks! Laugh first, get pissed second. This past year, those two have gotten swapped around in our culture, and frankly it's gonna wipe us out, because once you're angry it's hard to laugh.
Pointing out the gallows humor of all this can allow people to bond but I guess this is not the place for some white boys here are too sensitive I guess. Yes I am being provocative with this last two sentences for I just do not care any more. If people want distance let them have it. No good deed after all.
Hey. I'm a white boy. And again, I know y'all're both pissed right now and, frankly, you both have a pretty fair case, but the fact that this board has me checking more than once every 3 days is honestly the best thing I've seen all week.
So hey, be pissed everyone, that's totally your right.
But remember, these people aren't your enemies, they're your fellow citizens. Let's all laugh at the absurdity that is our country, right now, together. Nothing else is bringing us there.
