You can find libertarian atheists and Christian communists. Obviously, when the USSR was still around, there was a lot more pressure on Left thinkers to be atheist, but the Left has always been a lot more heterodox than we give them credit for being. They're all different varieties of wrong, of course, but when you get into why they hold wrong beliefs you find a variety of groundings. 
Political correctness is the pettiest form of casuistry.
