What's particularly puzzling about the formulation of "mainstream media" is that Fox is the most watched of the network news channels, and has been for more than a decade, and 15 of the 20 most watched cable news shows are on Fox:

The formulation of anything non-Fox on TV as "mainstream" is factually incorrect, and as good a piece of evidence as any that this conservative formulation exists to merely allow the language of victimhood to permeate conservative thought.
Why don't you post the ratings for CBS, ABC & NBC news shows and then dig out ANY conservative pieces any of them have done this century? They, and the major papers mentioned above ARE treated as legit & objective journalism. Obama went after Fox News, while in the White House and there was no outcry about the President violating the First Amendment and attacking the press as an institution, because for a long time, Fox has been understood to be a partisan source and not objective journalism. Meanwhile the major networks feature former Clinton staffers as anchors and objective analysts on their political shows and coverage, while the conservatives are specifically ghettoized as such, only brought on as exhibits of one perspective.
Pretending that there is any sort of ideological parity in the news media because each side has outlets is as nonsensical as the idea that "separate but equal" is as fair as the literal denotation of the phrase.
